From the day I was brough home from the hospital after being born. Dog was there. She satyed by my side through everyting. She was only a puppy when I was born, but our bond was there from the start.
Dog was a large, beautiful female black and tan German shepherd dog. She was always by my side.
Although I dont remember it, my parents have told me many times about the day when we all went for a walk. Dog, still a puppy, was with us. I was still in a carage. We were walking down the sidewalk, when this elderly lady came up to us, and to me she said, "oh what a quit baby." And what did our puppy dog do? She pushed her way aggresivly between the lady and me, and growled like there was no tomarrow.
As the years went on, we both grew up together. Everytime I went out side, Dog was with me. We use to run through the fields out back on or 32 acer property. We use to swim and play together. And cuddle up on the couch every evining. She never had to be on a leash. SHe would stay beside me no matter what happened..
When I use to go to school, dog would wait for me. When I walked through the door, she ran to me and covered me in kisses. She was the perfect dog.
Then, a day came that I will always remember as log as I live...
I got ready for school like anyother day. My bus came, and I headed out the door. Dog stood on the pourch eating her food. SHe looked up at me with those loving brown eyes like she did every day. And I bent down to pat her. I left for school, and I knew she sat watching me as the bus pulled away.
As school ended, I was ready to head home. My mom came to pick me up, witch she didnt do often. I though there was something wierd about it, but I pushed it from my mind.
My mom picked up me brother to. And on the way home, she told us...
Dog had gone missing. I was heart brocken. Dog never left the yard. SHe'd stand there for hours untill someone let her in. SHe never chased animals or cars, so why was she gone?
My mom aid that after I left, Dog comtiued eating her food. My mom went to do the dishs, and when she went to let Dog in, she was gone, and a white van was driving away.
I stayed home from school for days, searching our fields and roads for my dog. I never did find her.
We where at the table, eating supper, whe I brough up (once again) the subject of Dog. And thats when my dad told me. He said that the police had called earlier that day, and told him and my mom, that Dog, had been hit by a car nearly ten miles from our house.
I ran to my room. that night, and many other countless nights, I cried myself to sleep. My best friend was gone. I didnt understand why she had ran away.
My sister had recently brocken up with her boy friend, Nick. Nick was very angry. And what still bothers me, is that Dog, knew Nick. I wonder if he stole Dog from our front yard, and left here by the high way.
I guess I'll never know.
For many years I thought of Dog. And still when I think of her, tears come to my eyes. But I know, that some day, we will be together again, spending all of eternity in a better place...
